pla army amphibious brigades

Chinese PLA Army has 6 Amphibious Combined Arms Brigades as major part of invasion force of Taiwan. These are:

  • 1st CAB, 74th GA, STC
  • 5th CAB, 72 GA, ETC
  • 14th CAB, 73rd GA, ETC
  • 91st CAB, 73rd GA, ETC
  • 124th CAB, 72 GA, STC
  • 125th CAB, 74th GA, STC

They have equipment for beach landings, but lack the organic capability for a full scale invasion. They will need support from PLA Navy and Air Force for transport across Taiwan Strait. They are likely to use civilian transport vessels too.

Compared to PLA Navy Marines, they are equipped with heavier firepower and their most likely role is combat operations after Marines secure a beachhead.

The orbat and ToE of such a brigade is listed below:

  • 4 Amphibious CA Battalions. These have 2 amphibious assault gun companies, 1 firepower company and 1 service support company
  • 1 Reconnaissance Battalion. UAVs, recon vehicles and tech recon systems
  • 1 Artillery Battalion  Amphibious 122mm SPH, MBRLs, mortars and ATGMs
  • 1 Air Defence Battalion SR SAM, SP AA and MANPADS
  • 1 Operational Support Battalion. C&C, EW, Chemical Defence& Engineering
  • 1 Service Support Battalion
