PLA’s Xinjiang Military Region Army Divisions structure text draft

This is a long story and I am being brief. Xinjiang Military Region (XMR) under Western Theatre Command (WTC) responsible for military operations in Xinjiang facing India, Pakistan and Central Asia. It has 4 army divisions (4th, 6th, 8th and 11th) which were the last to get a Combined Arms structure, the process for which started after 2020 clashes with India.

As of now, the divisions still exist under a unique Combined Arms Division (CAD) structure. Following are the general details.

Division HQ.

Commander: Lieutenant General (Zhong jiang)

Political Commissar: Lieutenant General

I am not 100% sure, but the Division HQs have few Company or Battalion level units for logistics, communications, artillery and reconnaissance under direct command. Not exactly sure of exact structure, so not posting details yet.

3 Combined Arms Regiments (CAR).

These are the motorised or mechanised infantry units and are classified as Heavy, Medium or Light. Each such CAR has

  • 3 Combined Arms Battalions (CABn)
  • 1 Firepower Battalion
  • 1 Logistics Battalion and
  • 1 Combat Support Battalion.

1 Firepower Battalion.

This is a general purpose battalion for anti-air, anti-artillery and anti-armour operations unlike separate Brigades in CABs. Each such battalion has

  • 2 155 mm SPH battalions (haven’t spotted any towed guns)
  • 1 rocket artillery battalion (122 mm most likely)
  • 1 Short Range SAM Battalion (2-20 km range)
  • 1 AAA Battalion (25 mm guns)
  • 1 Logistics Battalion
  • 1 Combat Support Battalion

1 Logistics and Support Regiment.

Meant for general logistics and combat operations support, this battalion has following units:

  • 1 Medical unit. I think it is Company level.
  • 1 Logistics Battalion.
  • 1 Combat Support Battalion
  • 1 Reconnaissance Battalion.
