Defence Expo 2012. Some interesting APCs

This Rheinmetall Weisel was a source of major confusion as a very similar vehicle was on display in TATA pavilion along with models of their wheeled and tracked Future Infantry Combat Vehicles (FICV). It caused some confusion as in my previous post I wrongly labeled the vehicle in Tata pavilion as their FICV, even when the models on display alongside looked very different.

Next is Chakra Rath, a wheeled version of BMP2, meant for urban warfare and peace keeping missions. It has power assisted steering, split AC, 6×6 drive line, power assisted steering, run flat system and is lighter than tracked version. Fire power and protection are same, although it is longer

Looks like an attempt to make something similar to Stryker.  Interesting concept, I hope the project is not abandoned for lack of interest. Last time they had a 105mm gun mounted on a BMP, which was not on display this year. A truck mounted 105 mm gun was, which is  partially visible in first picture of Chakra Rath.

More to come later.

  1. the large windows in the wheeled BMP looks silly frankly, why would you put in such large holes in front of the vehicle ? looks made for the heck of it. IIRC OFB is one of the participants of FICV competition.

btw, would it be possible at some stage to put all FICV and related pics in one post ?
    cheers.

  2. What’s your opinion about the added features ? All I want is that the new FICV should be an Indian effort, not imported.
